Embroidery is the new crack

I'm obsessed with embroidery. So much that I tried to do it while on the treadmill at the gym...don't try that, doesn't really work. I have more than what's on here, about...oh...20 others? I've got a craft show Friday and Saturday and am trying to frame them all in time. Oh, and remove the blue ink.

My Cat Loves Me

It's been a while since I posted but the following photos are why! My bff Lisa made Fartbomb a lovely sweater, and I've been buried in Jem costumes. I think I made 30 so far this fall including the belts and complete costumes. Who knew Jem would be so popular? Well, who DOESN'T know that about Jem?? I'm still doing custom sized Jem costumes for CosPlay (spelling?) and 1980's parties here http://www.cherrypievintage.etsy.com

Back to sewing and now embroidery!

Total Awesomeness for August

Totally buying this shirt on etsy, found it on Feministing.com this morning and I'm swooning a little bit for it!
Also on the menu for today some bitching over sushi places around town and why 6 Flags New England sucks.

To start- last Friday we went to Saratoga for sushi. I heard great things about Sushi Thai Garden and thought well heck, we're down here to see a band play lets eat in Saratoga as well. Took 30 minutes of driving around trying to find just a place to park for the night. Saratoga has great shops, food, music but fucking blows when it comes to places to park. I'd love to live there but would hate it at the same time. Finally parked what seemed like miles away (track season going on now too) we get to the restaurant and wait. And wait. And wait. We eventually get seated in the back room with no windows or ambiance, my bad since I thought we could just show up without reservations. Our waitress had the highest and squeekiest voice ever, but she was nice. But we only got one drink since no one ever was around for more than 2 seconds to get us a refill. The menu was really lacking sushi options, and there were no photos of the rolls so you were really guessing at what you were getting. Overall, they were ok but not amazing. Lack luster really. I would suggest that if you are in the area drive north to exit 18 and head to downtown Glens Falls. There on route 9, Glen Street, you will find Siam Thai Sushi. It. Is. AMAZING! The service is great, it's gold and beautiful inside, the women who work there are super nice and the menu is extensive with its options. Go, go there now and eat till they roll you out of there!

A place you DO NOT want to eat at, or breathe at really is 6 Flags New England. It smelled like vomit everywhere, even at 10:30 am when we first walked in when they opened the doors. If you're vegetarian forget it! Everything but the crap they called 'pizza' had meat or chicken in it. Say you try the cheese pizza....they cover it with french fries. Then charge you $10 for it. Bullshit. Then $3.50 for a bottle of water on the hottest day of the year. I'm done.

Oh Christina...you had me at bionic, then lost me at morning dessert

Yes, I have a thing for Christina Aguilera. Bionic is now one of the most played on the playlist...with the exception of a few. Sex for Breakfast? Morning Dessert? Nice ideas, but they sound like the background of a very bad porn. Or, I guess if I was a stripper I would play these tracks along with just about every Peaches track out there.

Though I really think it's the platinum blonde hair and red lipstick. Sigh. I need a new haircut and new lipstick.

if there is a heaven, it will be here

I think I'm up for the challenge. That Man vs. Food guy has nothing on me when it comes to cheese and I'm gonna kick some butt in Ohio. http://www.meltbarandgrilled.com/

Grilled cheese is the most delicious food out there, and this place has 15 different kinds of cheese on one HUGE sammich. What's that? 15 is too much? Pansy.
http://foodporndaily.com/pictures/buttery-grilled-sharp-cheddar-and-blue-cheese-sandwich/ here is another fine example of cheesy goodness. I could stare at it all day long. And no, that's not disturbing.

been a while

Not that that means not much has happened, just means I've been super busy with the following. And my day job of course, which has slowed down and that's fantastic.

Hey protesting losers! I'm watching you...

Good job bringing a 5 year old with you, way to show him how to be a responsible adult. (note Sarcasm)

...............Super cute for summer!

I love this Amy Butler cotton print, if I could have a whole room covered in it I would be super happy. I guess I'll settle for a sweet halter dress instead.

Halter dress is made with two coordinating Amy Butler prints, and accented with white bias trim under the bust. The bodice is lined with white cotton, invisible zippered back and ties at the neck. Dress is a small and will fit a 34" to 35" bust and a 25" to 26" waist (depends on how tight you want the fit to be on you). The skirt from the waist to hem of pleated ruffle hem is 27". There are box pleats along the waistline and gathers under the bust to accent the fullness. This dress was worn once by my model Megan in a fashion show in June.

Found here in my etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/listing/30544457/day-dreamer-halter-dress

...........................................yikes! I work too much!

But Saturday is THE BEST DAY OF THE WEEK EVER! I'm getting my Marilyn Monroe haircut and heading to Utica to see the bestest ever Miss Martin to get some more ink on my arm. Oh the joy!

Yeah......really that's it. I'm swamped in prom and bridal so I have no life.

............ouch

So I fell on my ass in the middle of Target. The floors there are super slippery and I went down like a champ. Annie's Mac and Cheese boxes went flying, the PUR water filter broke part of my fall and the stupid size 7 flats are too tight that I bought. My elbow is super bruised, my hip hurts, and my ankle is slightly twisted. Nice. I had a crap program teaching 7th graders about teen pregnancy only to get one kid saying 'fag fag fag' to another which honestly is a great way to make my blood boil. Ugh! Tweens!

On the upside I'm swamped with prom dress and bridal orders! 20 yards of seersucker showed up for 5 dresses which will be super cute and Renee's prom dress that I'm just making up is going along swimmingly. I cannot wait to bellydance tomorrow night for a cancer survivor group and then hang out with the love of my life afterwards. I'm sure it will make up for my blowout yesterday in Target. Damn you Target and your slippery floors!

Teen pregnancy rate down 2%, but America's still top on the list!

I doubt that teens are going to listen to Bristol Palin in regards to abstinence. Teens will do what they want to do, they are not all going to wait until marriage or even ever want to get married, OR ABLE TO. What is needed is more education in health classes, in gym class, in any class to get the message across in regards to making good decisions. To use birth control, to let them know what their options are. Sooo many schools turn their heads on this and whoa! What happens?! Teen pregnancies! Education FAIL.

On another note, I don't understand why people can't fill out the damn Census. It took me 5 minutes to do, how have people still not done it??? If you haven't, I'll be happy to send you my extra "Queer the Census" hot pink sticker to put on the envelope.

..........................Bad cupcake.

Ok, not terribly bad, but def not the best or even in the top 10 that I've ever had. Went to Troy on Saturday to check out a shop to sell my dresses at. There was a vegan bakery next door.....so of course we had to check it out! But, dissapointment was in my near future.

The building was great looking, all pale turquoise blue and white. Big windows in front with striped awnings over top. We walked in and the chalkboard had all the different pastries, pies, cakes and cupcakes listed. But, there was a pastry display case that had only a small fraction of what the board said they had. I ordered the chocolate peanut butter cupcake. The cake was good but the frosting was crunchy!? Like, they either added in granulated sugar to the frosting, or made thier own powdered sugar from granulated sugar and just did a half ass job at it. There was only 1 kind of tea available, no trash cans to be found anywhere, and overall we were kinda dissapointed and thought of all the ways we could run a better shop. I'm not naming the name of it as it wasn't worth remembering really. Eh. I think I just expect MORE from a vegan bakery. To be such a special niche, it should be such a special place that carries recyclable packaging and cups and more variety. I won't be back.

It's almost his birthday!

Tomorrow is my lovely mustachioed husbands birthday. He'll be 32 and it's going to be very uneventful as we both have to work, I'm broke, and only ONE gift has come in the mail dammit.

I have however calmed down a bit from the whole Hyundai thing. They are still asshats but I'm writing a letter for real. Like it will make a difference! But I'll feel better about it. Jerks.

And I'm off the Fat Smash diet. I was Soooo cranky for 9 days without pasta, sugar, cheese.....yes cheese! I lost what, 2 pounds? Eff that. Back on the carb and cheese train and feeling great. Fat and great. Whatevs.......

I don't remember where I got this photo but this guy is HOT.

Dear Hyundai, your customer service blows.

Long story short, Hyundai customer service friggin' sucks. I don't even own the car anymore. I never will ever ever buy a Hyundai ever again and will tell everyone I know NOT to buy one because your customer service sucks. Your accounting department is full of idiots and for some reason when Subaru sent you the payoff check you, YES YOU HYUNDAI deposited that check into someone else's account. Yes, you did. You admitted this to us on the phone yet, no apology for doing it. No apology for telling us to pay up two months worth of car payments to a car that was already paid off. Resold even. But you treated us like we were non-paying dirt-bags. For hours we were on hold listening to your 'customer service' bullshit.

Try hiring someone who can recognize that when Subaru calls for a payout amount for xyz account that when they get that check that they can figure out it deposits into xyz account. Not another account and then blaming the customer for the issue. Your cars are junk, your service is even worse.

Very Easy Vogue

Well for once they were mostly right! I love Vogue patterns, I do...but sometimes they are totally speaking another language to me and I've been sewing for over 20 years. But this one, Vogue 8446 is coming out super cute! Though I'm wishing when I cut out the pattern as I was scrunched on Lisa's floor that I did a better job of seeing where the eyelet pattern stopped. Well, that's why there's a belt to be added. I'm hoping to wear this on Wednesday so I'll totally post a picture for the whole 6 people who read this. ha!

MEN! Please get with it!

This is why I do my day job, because this makes me sad for the men out there. My man however is a champ on this issue, because well...I talk about it all the time.

Horrible Day

First off, not much sleep because SOMEONE came home after 12:30 am and woke me and Fartie up. Then shampoo in my eyes so I'm stuck wearing glasses. THEN the alteration of 'just redoing the zipper' took 3 hours because it was not just redoing the zipper, the whole damn thing had to come apart! I'm cold, cranky, we're out of tuna so no tuna melts and Fartie's eyes are still weepy and I felt like such a jerk putting drops in them this morning.

Feck today.

Not Impressed.

So while out last weekend we headed to Saratoga and I wanted a cupcake. I thought Spa City Cupcakes would still be in the Downstreet Marketplace on Broadway but it wasn't...instead it was Betty's Cakes. Not that Spa City Cupcakes was any big deal, the cupcakes there were dry, badly decorated and at the time I had thought overpriced. But boy was I wrong....first lets go over the positives of the new place. 1. It was very cutely decorated and retro looking. 2. there was a line, so I was thinking they have GOT to be good. 3. There was a good variety of flavors and the prices were on the wall. 4. Good sodas, real sugar, cute design.

So we're in line and the board says there are 3 different prices for cupcakes. I'm thinking (stupidly I guess) that there was no way possible that a regular sized cupcake would be $4.50. FOUR FIFTY! Come on! We get our selections, get a soda to share and they ring us up for over $11.00. My husband looks at the girl like she rang us up for 4 cupcakes...but no, just the 2 and a soda. WTF? This had better be the best damn cupcake I've ever had, and I bake some pretty mean all natural organic cupcakes!

We head to the record shop making fun of our little confections which were individually wrapped in a plastic container with a huge sticker on top. That might of been my first clue- most of the price was going to the look of the cupcake, the packaging of the cupcake, the effing sticker. I made fun of it to the record shop guy and he agreed, 'better be the fucking best cupcake ever!'. Well, we hoped...flash forward to 9pm that night. We got out our cupcakes and bit in. My blueberry pancake cupcake had a nice taste, but for $4 freakin 50 I would of thought that the trick of dousing the shrivelled little blueberries in flour first so they didn't sink to the bottom of the cake would of been on the bakers mind. But it wasn't. The cake was moist, the frosting was mapley, but overall not the best cupcake I've ever had. Sigh.

Home remedies and hurdy gurdies

I think I'm on a hurdy gurdy kick. The band Djinn has one in it and I'm in love with their stuff. What's fun is making a room full of older women belly dance to it all while I'm jamming out dancing to my own beat. I'm sure they'll catch on to the greatness of it all....eventually.

Fartbomb (cat at bottom of page) still has conjuncitivitis. He's not doing well with the stupid gel we have to smoosh in his poor eyes and tries to bite me every 12 hours. So I read up on the great curing powers of ACV. Yes, apple cider vinegar. Now not only does he have goopy eyes, swollen eyes, but now he reeks of vinegar. Awesome.

My cat hates me.

Unicorn Cake

Quite possibly the most stupid and most brilliant thing I've made all week. How did I do it?

1. Buy cake mix, bake the cake and let it cool.
2. Whip up some raspberry buttercream frosting
(1 lb powdered sugar, 1 stick of cabot butter, a little less than 1/4 cup of homemade raspberry jam, some tablespoons of vanilla soy milk)
3. cover it with rainbow sprinkles
4. go get a $5 box of ponies
5. dig a knife in the ponies heads
6. stick candles in the heads of the ponies
7. stick ponies (now UNICORNS) in the cake
8. ta freakin da, unicorn cake

Genious. And stupid.

Wormie Cupcakes

I'm sure everyone on the planet has done these before, but it was my first time last week to do the dirt/worm cupcakes. They turned out super cute! Though I never tried one (trying to eat less sugar and crap) and these were marble out of the box as apposed to my home made organic recipe. And the worms were made of gelatin, and the tops were crushed Oreos, all big no's for me lately...but they will looked cute and the teens ate them up because when you're 16 you don't give a crap about what you eat I guess!

I have no life

Here's why! The Winsome Dress, just like the Darling Dress but longer and with an scalloped hem and more eyelet. It's available in my etsy shop for $200.00 custom sized.
I'm also trying to find some nice eylet with a scalloped hem in othe colors. It's not easy I'm finding out.

Also going back to PLATINUM hair today! With some pink streaks thrown in here and there of course. I get a new SUBARU today as well! OH JOY! For REAL! So I can cart around my dress forms with ease for the next show. SUPER excited!
